Rules

The Mental Health Act, 2001 authorises the Mental Health Commission to publish rules providing for the use of Electro-Convulsive Therapy (S. 59(2)) and providing for the use of Seclusion and Mechanical Means of Bodily Restraint (S. 69(2)). The rules may be downloaded and reproduced from the Commission's website so long as they are reproduced accurately, not altered and not used in a misleading context. The official version of the rules remains the printed version published by the Mental Health Commission.
The Mental Health Commission published two revised sets of Rules pursuant to sections 59(2) and 69(2) of the Mental Act 2001 in January 2010. An addendum to the Rules Governing the Use of Seclusion & Mechanical Restraint has also been published which comes into effect on 1st March 2011.
