Rules Governing the use of Electro-Convulsive Therapy

The Mental Health Commission published Version 2 of the Rules Governing the Use of Electro-Convulsive Therapy pursuant to Section 59(2) of the Mental Health Act 2001. The rules are relevant to all approved centres.

The rules were updated following an independent review which involved and extensive stakeholder consultation.

The Commission has also developed What you need to know about the Rules and Code of Practice on Electro-convulsive Therapy (ECT) for service users, carers and advocates.
