Social Media Content and House Rules

Please note that our social media channels are not monitored 24/7. If you or someone you know is in crisis, or is at imminent risk of harm, please contact the emergency services, or your local GP. The HSE has listed urgent professional supports here.

Our social media channels offer you a way to engage with the Mental Health Commission on a wide variety of topics. They also offer us a way to keep you up to date with our latest news and events, reports, and general news and information related to the work of the Commission and the Decision Support Service (DSS).

The Mental Health Commission respects everyone’s right to express their thoughts and opinions. While we encourage constructive conversations on our social media platforms, we also respectfully request that your contributions comply with our ‘House Rules’ (see below). It is important that we ensure that online conversations are safe, that those contributing to these platforms are respected, and that everyone feels comfortable sharing views and opinions.

While we welcome all views, we may not respond to all posts or comments. It should also be noted that retweets, shares and follows are not to be considered endorsements. We also ask that you appreciate that social media may not be the most appropriate forum for us to respond to some questions. We may, therefore, ask you to get in touch with us in a different way such as emailing us at info@mhcirl.ie.

If you have any feedback or concerns about a mental health service, please email info@mhcirl.ie. If you wish to make a formal complaint against a service, please get in touch with the HSE’s ‘Your Service, Your Say’ or visit www.healthcomplaints.ie. While the Mental Health Commission is not a complaints body and is therefore unable to process complaints against a service provider, information provided may inform our regulatory process.

House Rules:

  • Please do not post confidential or personal information, including naming individuals. If we need further information, we may ask you to send this to us by emailing info@mhcirl.ie.
  • Please do not use offensive, indecent or obscene language that could be discriminatory or promotes discrimination of any kind.
  • Please do not post anything that you know to be untrue, inaccurate or that you know will put others at risk of physical, emotional or mental harm.
  • Please do not post anything that could be considered defamatory, embarrassing, or damaging to an individual, company or entity’s reputation.
  • Please do not target, harass or intimidate MHC staff
