Information for People with an Intellectual Disability

We published a code of practice for staff working in mental health services with people with intellectual disabilities in 2010.

The code was developed by a multidisciplinary working group which included service user representation, and involved stakeholder consultation.  As part of the consultation, we received submissions from various organisations, bodies and individuals and these views heavily influenced the structure and content of the final code of practice we developed.

We also worked with partners to develop an easy read version of the code which tells service users what they can expect under the code.  While the code of practice itself is no longer in circulation, the easy read version contains useful information about how mental health services should work with people who have an intellectual disability and mental health problems.  You can access this easy read version below.
