Members of the public and service users who have a concern about a service, can report that concern to us.
If you have a concern about a service that relates to the health, wellbeing or safety of a person receiving mental health services, you can email concerns@mhcirl.ie.
The Mental Health Acts do not allow us to investigate complaints, so you should make a complaint directly to the Complaints Department of the particular service. For information on making a complaint to a care service, please click on the link Making a Complaint
Our role in reviewing a concern is limited. We can review the information you give us and consider what action is appropriate.
The appropriate action may be:
- Requesting further information from the service. This may be about the care and treatment of a patient (with the patient's consent), or the services the approved centre provides.
- Reporting the concern to An Garda Síochána or Tusla
- Advising you how to get the support, advice or information needed
- Using the information for our next yearly inspection of for a focused inspection
