The MHC consultation to inform the revision of the Headspace Toolkit for young people
28 August 2023The Mental Health Commission (MHC) is currently undertaking a review of the Headspace Toolkit. The Toolkit provides an age-appropriate guide to young patients who are receiving inpatient mental health care in approved centres. Its function is to empower young people: it gives practical information on rights, relevant legislation, and how to speak up or get others to listen. Young people can use the Toolkit independently or with support from a trusted adult such as a key worker, nurse, or other member of the team.
The current version of the Headspace toolkit can be found at this link Young People | Mental Health Commission (mhcirl.ie)
As part of this consultation, we want to hear from all stakeholders. We especially want to get feedback from young people who may have used the Toolkit or have recommendations on what improvements can be made to it. We are also interested in hearing from service users’ friends and families, people working in child and adolescent approved centres, and the public.
Feedback may be submitted by completing the electronic survey which closes at 5pm on Monday 2 October 2023, and /or by participating in a virtual focus group or interview which will be held during the week of 9 October 2023.
If you wish to take part in the survey, please click this link Headspace Toolkit Survey.
If you would like to participate in a focus group/interview, please respond with your name and contact details to standards@mhcirl.ie by 5pm on 2 October 2023.
Support
Please note that the MHC appreciates and recognises that a public consultation process can be difficult for some people. With that in mind, we would like to direct anyone in need of support to this help and support page, which provides key links and contact details for services and organisations that offer immediate or urgent support, and to organisations that offer general and specialised ongoing support.
