Code of Practice on the use of Digital Monitoring Technologies
The Code aims to support the safe, transparent, ethical and responsible use of digital monitoring technologies in approved centres.
Digital monitoring technology is defined in the Code as “technology used by staff in an approved centre to observe or monitor a person to inform their care and treatment and ensure their health safety and welfare”. Examples of digital monitoring technologies include, but are not limited to, CCTV, body worn cameras, infrared cameras, sensors and GPS tracking devices.
The Code expands on existing requirements in regulation 25 of the Mental Health Act 2001 (Approved Centres) Regulations 2006 and the Rules Governing the Use of Seclusion related to CCTV and monitoring devices
