A tribunal can decide to either affirm or revoke the admission or renewal order.
The tribunal members can decide either to:
Affirm the admission or renewal order -
To reach this decision, two or three members of the panel must be satisfied that the law was followed correctly when the patient was admitted or when their admission was renewed and that the patient remains unwell and needs to stay in the approved centre
or
Revoke the admission or renewal order -
To reach this decision, two or three members of the panel must believe either the law was not followed correctly when the patient was admitted or when their admission was renewed or that the patient no longer has a mental disorder requiring treatment in an approved centre.
The patient will be told the decision of the tribunal on the same day. The tribunal will also inform the patient’s legal representative and the patient’s treating psychiatrist of their decision.
