An approved centre is a service registered by the Mental Health Commission to provide in-patient treatment to people suffering from mental illness. The MHC maintains a register of all approved centres.
The Adult Acute Mental Health Unit is located on the grounds of University Hospital Galway. First opened in 2018, it can accommodate residents in four separate suites.
The Acute Psychiatric Unit is located on the lower ground floor of Cavan General Hospital and provides beds for acute mental health in-patient services.
The Department of Psychiatry is an approved centre adjacent to Letterkenny University Hospital and is connected to the General Hospital via a corridor.
